Aquila and Priscilla
Acts 18:26 (NASB) And he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
I think everybody needs an Aquila and a Priscilla. We all need someone to expound the way of the Word of God more definitely and accurately. What is amazing about Apollos, who ended up being a very important teacher in the body of Christ in the book of Acts, is he only knew about John’s baptism. He wasn’t even born again, and he was ministering about the Lord Jesus when Aquila and Priscilla first heard him. Apollos had a good start and was doing the best he knew but he needed more; and so, they took him aside and personally mentored him, and he became a more well-known minister than them. Apollos was destined to be a great teacher of the Word of God, but he would not have reached his maximum potential if it were not for Aquila and Priscilla, who ended up pastoring. Even Aquila and Priscilla were influenced by Paul. They were all tent makers by trade and ended up in Corinth all together making tents, sharing revelation, and hanging out in the synagogue while Paul reasoned with the Jews and the Greeks about the Word of God. In Acts 18, we learn that Paul ministered in Corinth for 18 months and then, he and Aquila and Priscilla left together and sailed to Ephesus. My point is this. Aquila and Priscilla gleaned from Paul and then, were ordained to help Apollos and then, Apollos taught a lot of people.
Did you have an Aquila and Priscilla in your life? I did. Her name was Margaret, and she really helped me in the early years after I got filled with the Holy Spirit and returned to my hometown after graduating Bible School. She, through her prayers and just pointing things out to me and seeing her life of walking by faith, really helped me. She was a great inspiration in my life. She took me in and blessed me in so many ways. I do not even know if she knew, but she really did help position me for pastoring and saw to it that I knew the Word must be first, and that you must always follow the Holy Ghost.
You could be an Aquila or a Priscilla for someone. You should always have someone speaking into your life, but you should also be speaking into someone else’s life. What a privilege to show someone the way more definitely and correctly. And you never know who that person will turn out to be for God. I would encourage you to believe for someone whom you can speak into their lives. Do not force it but allow God to do it. You might think that is a preacher’s job, but my “Aquila and Priscilla” were all wrapped into one lady who was not a five-fold minister; she was just a businesswoman who knew God, so don’t let the devil fool you and make you think you can’t help someone.
