Favor for a lifetime
Psalm 30:5 (NIV) For his anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
What an amazing scripture. His anger only lasts for a moment. Even when we sin and mess up, the Lord stands ready to forgive us. I love Isaiah 43:25 that says He blots out our transgressions for His sake and doesn’t remember our sins. That why His anger does not last. He forgives, and He forgets. Even when things are bad, the weeping should only last for a night; and then, because of God’s favor to us, rejoicing comes in the morning. This favor that God has for us is available for a lifetime. It is available for all our life and every day of our life. I think one of the things we are to get from this Psalm is that no matter what it looks or feels like, favor is available to change it.
If you look at Psalm 30, in its entirety, you will see David’s enemies are winning, and there is sickness in his body. His soul feels like it is a grave or a pit. He feels like he is dying or would rather die but then, the favor of God kicks in. We then see that at the end of this favor, David’s sorrow has turned into dancing. He took off the sackcloth, which represents grief and sorrow, and put on gladness for his garment.
It is time for you to rejoice and be grateful because no matter your current circumstances, the favor we have with God and man will turn it around. It is time to rejoice because God’s favor surrounds you like a shield. This favor is yours because God is with you, just like He was with Joseph. This favor will deliver you just like it did David. Even if it looks as bad as what David was going through, our God will give you great favor so you will come out on top. Just rejoice and count it done!
