Doing the Works of Jesus

We are called to do the works of Jesus on the earth.  We are His body and He is counting on us to do what He has called us to do.  To better understand the works of Jesus, we must understand the scripture in John 14:12 that says, “and even greater works shall we do.”  What are the greater works?  Well, I don’t believe we can do greater healings or miracles, but we can see more of them as He does the work through us.  The greater works we are to see in my estimation are to get people saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.  We will help explain this further as we look at Jesus’ mission on the earth, so we can find our place in the greater works we are supposed to be doing.

Jesus proclaimed His purpose in John 3:17, “For God sent not his son to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.”  In Luke 19:10, “For the son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”  Jesus’ mission was to come and save us.  Paul said it this way in I Timothy 1:15, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”   His mission was to seek and save, and that is our mission too and I choose to accept it!  Do you?  There are other facets of Jesus’ mission.  He also came to destroy the works of the devil, according to I John 3:8.  He came to give the body of Christ abundant life (John 10:10).  He came to minister to us and give His life as a ransom (Matthew 20:28).  He was also here on earth to bear witness to the truth as He told us in John 18:37.  He came to fulfill the law according to Matthew 5:17 and He came to take our place, to exchange with us ; He became sin so we could become righteous, II Corinthians 5:21 and He became poor so we could become rich, II Corinthians 8:9.  We are so grateful that Jesus came on a mission and fulfilled all of that mission.  He said so when He said, “It is finished!”

How did Jesus accomplish this mission?  Of course, by going to the cross and being raised from the dead.  However, while He was on the earth He showed us how to do the greater works.  He did it by preaching and teaching because the Spirit of God was upon him.  The same spirit that was on Him in Luke 4:18-19 is also upon you.  He is not a different Holy Ghost.  He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil so says Acts 10:38. You and I should go about doing good and ministering the healing power of God both physically and for the broken hearted everywhere we go.  How the Holy Ghost anointed Jesus of Nazareth.  Well, the Holy Ghost can anoint you too regardless of what city you are from.

You and I are called to do the works of Jesus.  If we know His purpose, then we can make His purpose our purpose.  If we know how he did it, then we can do it too.  This is a timeless truth, Jesus didn’t do any mighty works until the Holy Spirit came on him.  Today, let the Spirit of God come on you fresh and new and let’s do the works of Jesus!
