Helmet of Salvation
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
The helmet of salvation is something very important in keeping the defeated devil out of your life. The helmet of salvation has to do with your mind. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart so is he.” The thinking part of you, which is done in your soul realm, is so important to keeping free from all that the devil may try to do in your life. When we were born again, our minds were not transformed along with our spirits, so we must continually save our souls. How do you save your soul? If you’re thinking, “I thought my soul was saved when I got born-again,” it was not. It was your spirit that was made alive. Your soul, which is your mind, will, and emotions, still needs some work, but the part of our soul we are talking about right now is our mind.
If you are going to successfully resist the devil every day, you must keep your mind renewed. It is a daily thing. I heard someone say that your mind won’t stay renewed just like your teeth won’t stay brushed. If we could at least do as good with our mind as we do with our teeth, then we might do a whole lot better against the enemy. Psalms 23:3 speaks to the restoration of your soul. How do we do it? By renewing our mind. Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” The god of this world and this world system is always trying to keep you in line, keep you conformed to its way of thinking and, therefore, it’s way of acting. To successfully resist the devil, you must think right. You must think like God. How do you do that? Again, by renewing your mind. Romans 12:2 calls it “going through a transformation (METAMOPHU).” From this word we get our word “metamorphosis.” What is a metamorphosis? It is where a tadpole becomes a frog, a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.
Your mind must go through this process so you can be free from the devil and his strategies, which mostly comes by attacks to our minds to get us to think wrong, doubt, be carnal, and get us focused on things we can see and feel. 1 Peter 1:13 tells us to gird up the loins of our minds. That sounds like some work. It is because daily we are dealing with this world and the way it thinks, and that is stronger now than it has ever been. So, brush your teeth, comb your hair, and renew your mind!
