RENEW YOUR MIND TO SEE WHO YOU ARE

Numbers 13:33 (NKJV) There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.

Before someone fails outwardly, they fail on the inside first.  The same is true of success.  You must succeed inwardly before you can succeed outwardly.  Therefore, as a person thinks, that is who they become.  The Word of God has a lot to say about us renewing our minds and changing our thinking process.  That is why Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

So, first, I want to show you how important it is to see ourselves the way God sees us.  Really, if you think incorrectly of yourself, it can even keep the plan of God for your life from happening.  If you see yourself wrong, you can keep the promises of God away from you, even though they are yes and amen in Christ Jesus.  The perfect example of this is found in our verse for today, which says in the KJV, “And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”  Because they saw themselves as grasshoppers, they were not able to receive the promise of God.  How they saw themselves produced unbelief and caused them to speak an evil report of unbelief.

How do we change how we see ourselves?  We must renew our mind.  We must think God’s thoughts, which are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9).  We must meditate in the Word day and night (Joshua 1:8).  Isn’t it interesting that the Lord spoke to Joshua and told him if he was going to take the land that was given to the people of God and if they wanted to be successful, they would have to change their pattern of thinking.  The enemy had not changed.  They were still giants.  The walls had not changed.  They were still as huge as ever.  The will of God had not changed.  He had promised them the land and was able to deliver it into their hands.  So, what changed for the second group that went in?  They had changed their mind.  Their leaders, Joshua and Caleb, had a spirit of faith and believed God.  They had made up their minds, long ago, that they would be able to receive what God had promised them and taught the people to believe the same.

If you want what God has promised you, then you, too, must change your mind.  How?  Renew it.  Cast down every imagination and high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5).  You and I can renew our minds and remove every strong hold that is in our thinking.  Take the Word of God and remove every pattern of thinking that opposes what the Word of God says.  You and I need to continuously give our mind a bath with the Word of God.  When you transform your thinking, it will cause you to be in position to receive all that God has for you.
