Knowing God So You Can Make Him Known
Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.
When you really know God, you can then make Him known to others. It is impossible to tell something about someone you do not know. The more you know God and His character, the more you can share Him with others.
How do you get closer to the Lord? Psalm 145:18 says that God is near to all who call upon Him in truth. Amos 3:3 says that two can only walk together when they agree. So, how do we draw near? We look into the truth of the Word of God and use that truth about Him to draw near to Him. Through confession, prayer, and worship, we can draw near to the Father. As we fellowship around the truth of His Word, it will pull us closer to Him. We will begin to agree with Him and, therefore, be able to walk with him.
What does that look like? What does it look like when you are walking close with the Lord? You have set your affections on Him. Colossians 3:2 tells us to set our affections on Him and not on the things of this earth. You come boldly to the Throne of Grace. Hebrews 4:16 tells us to come boldly before the Throne. You and I need to come regularly to the Throne Room to fellowship with the Father. This is similar to the Father walking with Adam in the cool of the day in the Garden of Eden. There is no replacement for this time of fellowship. If we are going to be close to the Lord, we must sever our friendship with the world. If we are hanging out with the world, we will not be able to hang out with God. James 4:4 tells us that friendship with the world will cause us to be an enemy of the Lord.
There is a sure way to know who you have been spending time with in the realm of the spirit. It is by what you smell like. Yes, what you smell like. II Corinthians 2:14-16 tells us about this fragrance. To another believer, you have a fragrance of life in the spirit, and it will become stronger the more you are around the Father. The more time you spend in His presence, the more you will smell like Him. You will carry around the aroma of God. It will even cause an unbeliever to want to know the Father as they recognize the smell of the Father on your life. It will cause them to repent and come to God. When you and I really know Him, when we walk close to Him and set our affections on Him, we smell like Him and are then able to make Him known.
