Loin Belt of Truth

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.

The loin belt is the written Word of God, or the logos.  The loin belt is the piece of armor that holds all the other armor together.  Without the written Word of God, the rest of the armor has nothing to hold on to.  Without the written Word of God, our resisting the devil would be futile.  The Lord gave Paul this revelation while he was looking at a Roman soldier.  We are not to get so caught up in each piece of the armor as much as what each piece represents.  The armor itself and what Paul is looking at has some significance but only to show us what it represents.  In this case, Paul likens the written Word of God to the belt which held all the other armor in place.  It may not be the most seen or the most glamorous piece, but it is very necessary.  Where would we be without the written Word of God?  Without the logos (written word which is the sword of the spirit), there is no rhema (spoken Word of God).  Let’s look at the importance of the written Word of God.

The Word of God holds all things together.  Jesus was the Word in Heaven and then, the Word became flesh.  The Word of God says that all things were made by Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16).  In Hebrews 1:3, we see that all things are held together by His Word.  Jesus also told us in Matthew 7:24-27 that if you were going to make it in this life, you had to be a doer of His Word and not a hearer only because the storms of life (brought by the devil) are coming.

We know the Word of God is sure.   Psalm 119:89 says that the Word is forever settled in Heaven.  In Isaiah 40:8, we see the Word stands forever.  Matthew 24:35 says the Word will never pass away.  In Isaiah 55:9-11, we find the Word of God shall never return void, but it will always accomplish what it was sent to do.  In 1 Peter 1:25, we find that the Word of the Lord endures forever.  Heaven and Earth may pass away, but His Word will stand forever; it will never pass away, and it will always accomplish what it was sent to do.  That, my friends, is a sure foundation you can build your life on; and when this written Word gets in your heart and in your mouth, it will cause you to be able to resist the devil with the armor you’ve been given, so you can win in life and stand in the place God has ordained for you.

God’s Word never fails and never comes to an end, but it won’t do you any good unless you sow it into your heart and use it to renew your mind.  We must be so sure of the written Word of God that we practice and spend our life doing it.  When we do, we are setting ourselves up to walk in victory over the devil and his schemes, lies, evil desires, temptations, and all the circumstances that he tries to bring to our lives.  Let’s esteem the written Word of God like never before and then, do it because it will enable you to keep your armor on so that you will always win.
