Unity
Psalm 133:1 (NKJV) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Unity is so important in the body of Christ, at church, in your home, in your workplace, and in any place where there is a group of people. In the Word of God, unity is an essential element for the Glory of God to be in manifestation. In the book of Acts, on the day of Pentecost, unity was a vital element of the outpouring of God's Spirit. Acts 2:1 says, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place." Unity was also a vital part of the Glory of God appearing in the Old Testament at the dedication of Solomon's Temple.
2 Chronicles 5:13 says, " It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying, for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord." So, we can clearly see that where there is unity, God will surely show up in His power and in His glory.
What is unity? I think the best description I've heard was when unity was likened to a symphony orchestra. In an orchestra, there are many different instruments, each with a distinct sound. If you have ever heard an orchestra warm up, each one is just playing their own thing, doing scales or whatever; it is a hideous sound. Then, when a leader steps up and taps their baton on a music stand, each player will select the music for the song about to be played, and they will all play, following the leadership of the conductor. Although each instrument still has its distinct sound, they are now all playing in unity. They are all playing the same song at the same time. They are many, with different instruments, and each having different notes, but it blends in unity and harmony and makes a beautiful sound.
All of us should strive to be in unity in the local and larger body of Christ. Each one has a special part to play; and when we all follow the leadership of our conductor, the Lord, that’s when we will create an atmosphere that God can move in. This unity is not limited to a church service. Unity will bring something from God in every arena of your life. Psalm 133:1-3 says, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head...for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore." It means to me that no matter what area you are talking about, if there is unity, everyone doing their part under the direction of the Holy Spirit, then God will COMMAND THE BLESSING! When the blessing of God is on something, nothing else seems to matter.
